FUSED GLASS WORKSHOPS - FAQ'S
What is Fused Glass?
Fused glass is a special type of glass that is cut, assembled, and fired in a kiln at a very high temperature to fuse it together. It can then be refired to ‘slump’ it into a specific shape.
Where are the workshops held?
All the workshops are held in my home studio on the outskirts of Basingstoke. (RG24) I teach a maximum of 8 people per workshop. I run adult sessions from 10:00 from 2.5 hours up to all day. I also provide workshops for children over the age of 5 years.
Do I need any previous experience?
No! Most people who attend have never done anything like this before. Warning it is a bit addictive though!
How much does it cost?
Workshops start at £50 per person for adults for a 2.5hour workshop, £70 for a half day workshop, £140 for a full day workshop.
Can children attend a workshop?
Yes, I provide Family Fusion workshops for children and adults. Your child needs to be 5+ years old. The Family Fusion workshop is only 1 hour long and does not include glass cutting. Children from 14 years+ can join an adult workshop.
When do I run workshops?
Workshops are run regularly throughout the year.
What will I make?
You will learn to design, cut, and assemble Bullseye Glass (the type of fusing glass) to create a project of your choice.
During a 2.5-hour workshop you will make 1 of the following using up to 20 x 10cms of glass (Maximum of 2 firings)
2 x coasters, 2 draped tealights, a small bowl, a wall hanging, a small curve or wave.
During a half day workshop you will make any of the above projects using up to 30 a 30cms of glass and have the option of making a dish up to 22cms diameter
What do I need to bring?
All materials are provided. I provide, coffee and tea, and squash for children. Some students choose to bring design ideas (photos on phones or drawn out) Pinterest and Google is a good place to look for inspiration! Please bring your own packed lunch for the all-day workshop.
Health and safety
Protective googles are provided. Please wear closed toed shoes when attending a workshop. I can provide a full risk assessment if you wish.
SCHOOLS AND CORPORATE WORKSHOPS
As a qualified, DSB/CRB checked and first-aid trained primary school teacher, I really enjoy visiting schools with The Glass Duck. I can offer in-class workshops in fused glass. Each workshop includes all materials, tools, and firing. These workshops can be run as a fundraising event through your school PTA, just get in touch to discuss.
I begin the workshops by teaching the pupils the health and safety of working with glass. then onto to design and technique. I then allow the pupils to explore their creative expression while constructing their individual projects. Fused glass workshops can add an exciting element to your classroom. Each workshop is developed with distinct learning outcomes. I can also work with larger groups in school.
Children can make individual pieces or combine their work to make a completed project. If your school is looking to celebrate a special anniversary or event, I could work with your school to design a mural glass project! This timeless completed art piece can then be installed in a place of honour in your school!
